Position: Part-Time
Compensation: $12,000 annually, based on an average of approximately 10 hours per week.
Reports to: Pastor
Position Summary
The Youth Director provides leadership for St. Philip’s ministry with children and youth, with a primary emphasis on middle and high school youth. The Director will build relationships with young people and their families and create opportunities for faith, fellowship, service, and participation in congregational life.
Working collaboratively with the Pastor, staff, families, and volunteers, the Youth Director will help St. Philip live out its mission of “Expanding God’s table for all in Spirit, song, and service.”
This position averages approximately 10 hours per week, including regular Sunday morning presence. Hours will vary depending on events, trips, and the ministry calendar.
Key Duties
Plan and lead youth ministry. Plan at least one youth event per month from September through May, primarily for middle and high school youth, while also providing periodic opportunities for younger children and families. Activities may include fellowship, faith formation, service, fundraising, retreats, and other creative opportunities.
Be present on Sunday mornings. Build relationships with children, youth, and families and participate in the life of the congregation. Lead approximately half of the children’s messages at the 10:30 a.m. worship service in coordination with the Pastor.
Coordinate summer and larger opportunities. In coordination with the Youth Committee and other volunteers, help plan and lead a Vacation Bible School event or other summer faith-formation opportunity, a youth trip or service experience, and participation in appropriate synodical, camp, regional, and churchwide opportunities, including the ELCA Youth Gathering.
Communicate clearly and in advance. Develop and communicate a ministry calendar with sufficient advance notice for families and volunteers to plan. Promote opportunities through appropriate congregational communications, including newsletters, announcements, and social media.
Recruit and coordinate volunteers. Invite and organize volunteers as needed to support events, trips, VBS, and other youth ministry activities.

Qualifications
Experience with or a demonstrated passion for children’s and youth ministry.
A Christian faith and willingness to support the mission, ministry, and Lutheran identity of St. Philip. Lutheran background is welcome but not required.
Ability to plan and lead activities and work collaboratively with staff and volunteers.
Commitment to providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for children and youth.
Ability to work regularly on Sunday mornings and at other times required by youth ministry activities.
Position Development
St. Philip is actively discerning its longer-term ministry and staffing needs, including the possibility of an expanded full-time ministry position. As that process develops, the responsibilities, hours, or structure of the Youth Director position may be reevaluated. Any future changes would be discussed with the Youth Director and determined through the congregation’s appropriate staffing and decision-making processes.
The Youth Director will follow the policies and procedures established by St. Philip Lutheran Church.
