A Helping Hand

Shauna Shea’s journey to St. Philip was marked by unexpected connections and a desire for belonging. Originally from Canada, she ventured to the United States in pursuit of her nursing career, with stops in various locations before meeting her husband, Kevin, in Florence, SC. Their union was officiated by none other than Pastor Hank Moody, who will pop up again as a familiar face in their story.

The Shea Family journey continued, winding its way to Charleston and eventually settling in Myrtle Beach during the challenging times of the pandemic. Here in Myrtle Beach, they sought a church community, visiting several churches, hoping to find a place where they could truly belong. Then they found St. Philip. Pastor Moody’s connection with the church immediately drew them in, and they were warmly welcomed by the congregation.

Feeling a special, spiritual connection, Shauna and Kevin decided to make St. Philip their church home, which was affirmed by a visit from Pastor Jason.

As a nurse, Shauna's heart already overflows with a desire to serve, and she found a perfect match in the welcoming arms of St. Philip. She became deeply involved in the youth programs, Sunday school, and the acolyte program, all while also serving as the secretary of the Church Council and assisting in the church office. Her commitment to service is not just a personal endeavor but also a way to nurture her son Ray's faith, ensuring that he, too, found a sense of belonging and spiritual growth.

Shauna's story exemplifies the transformative power of community and the generosity that fuels the work of the church. Through her journey to find belonging, Shauna has not only found a home at St. Philip but also a life that continues to help others belong. If you need help, you just may find Shauna by your side.
