Visit

Being able to worship has always been important for Angelina Santino. For years, going to Mass gave her a sense of reverence and a chance to praise God – but something was missing. She longed for a place where she could do more than simply attend; she wanted a community where she was allowed to participate and connect. Angie wanted a church where she could bring her whole self – her laughter, her gifts, and her faith – and be part of something larger than herself.

In 2021, Angie decided it was time for a fresh start. Her son lived in New Jersey and her daughter in Atlanta, but her work-from-home career gave her the freedom to live anywhere. So she chose Myrtle Beach — because if you can live anywhere, why not live at the beach? She found a cozy condo, began settling in, and quickly discovered that even when your family supports your move, you might still end up sleeping on the sofa when your daughter visits.

Before long, Angie began visiting churches, praying to find the kind of community she hoped for. When she attended St Philip, the pieces were there: the people were friendly, the worship was alive, and everything felt genuine. She decided to attend the New Member class to learn more.

During the first session, she noted that several people had previously been visited by the pastor. With her trademark laugh, Angie blurted, “Hey, how come I haven’t gotten a visit yet?” By the end of the class, the pastor had her appointment scheduled. When that visit came, it was the beginning of many warm connections. The follow-up from others confirmed her initial feelings: she was noticed, appreciated, and welcomed into a family of faith that cared.

In 2023, Angie officially joined St. Philip, and it quickly became home. She’s grateful for a congregation where she can be herself – genuine, real, and joyful – and where she can do more than simply attend. She finds meaning in serving as an Assisting Minister and Lector, roles she never could have imagined in her previous church.

Surrounded by people who share God’s love freely and make room for everyone, Angie has found a place where she can laugh, serve, and worship – a place where she is truly “allowed to be me.”
